Lark yelseb Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 Hi any help would be great. I have a galaxy mk2 petrol 2.3 It has recently developed a strange fault. You can turn the key in the ignition to start the engine and it will not do anything at. Not a squeak from the engine at all Any help? Quote
insanitybeard Posted January 2, 2014 Report Posted January 2, 2014 Do you get any lights on the instrument cluster when you try to start? The petrol models have a fairly common problem with a relay in the fusebox which packs up, I can't remember the number of it, somebody else here should be able to chime in with that info. Quote
Lark yelseb Posted January 3, 2014 Author Report Posted January 3, 2014 Yes all lights function..... Called out the AA and the suggested a new starter motor. Will keep you posted Quote
Lark yelseb Posted January 4, 2014 Author Report Posted January 4, 2014 Fitted a new starter motor and did not solve the problem. Possibly an Immobiliser fault? Quote
chrislloydie Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 My brother in law is having same problem but with his mk1 tdi. Did you get yours sorted? Quote
Lark yelseb Posted January 16, 2014 Author Report Posted January 16, 2014 Called out the AA again. this time a proper chap rather than someone they sent as they were too busy.He knew exactly what the problem was and went straight to relay 30! replaced this and now starting fine. Quote
BrianH Posted January 16, 2014 Report Posted January 16, 2014 Fitted a new starter motor and did not solve the problem. Possibly an Immobiliser fault? Relay 30 as you discovered is the problem. And yes its an immobiliser fault as you suspected as relay 30 supplies the power for the immobiliser! Quote
Trislander Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 I have a similar problem on my 1.9tdi does this relay 30 apply to diesels or is my problem a faulty start motor? I can start it with a bump Quote
BrianH Posted January 21, 2014 Report Posted January 21, 2014 i think its 109 on the diesel ones but same applies pretty much.http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php/topic/26325-which-relay-19-tdi-mk2/?hl=relay has some more info. Quote

I can start it with a bumpRelay 30 is petrols only and 109 will not affect starter, check starter, wiring and ignition switch. Quote
